Thomas MOHR (Germany)

Baritone

Born: 1961 - Germany

The German baritone, Thomas Mohr, was trained at the Music Academy in Lubeck with his teacher Karl Heinz Pinhammer, who placed special value on an intensive involvement with the text and on the "musical truth" of each work. This period was certainly the decisive factor in his musical interpretations. In this spirit, Thomas Mohr, who passed his concert examination with honors, devotes himself, on the one hand, to the recital repertoire, winning, among other accolades, first prize at the International Walther Gruner Song Competition in London.

A Grammy Award in the category "Best Operatic Recording" for the recording of Ferruccio Busoni's Arlecchino and Turandot is, on the other hand, only one example of his successes in the operatic field; permanent engagements such as one in Bonn stood at the beginning of his career.

In his lively concert activity, Thomas Mohr has collaborated with such eminent conductors as Sir Georg Solti, Christoph von Dohnanyi, Kent Nagano and Nikolaus Harnoncourt. Since winter semester of 2002 he also teaches as a full professor at the Academy of the Arts in Bremen. He was last heard in a Paradisi gloria concert with the Rundfunkorchester with works by Mozart and Penderecki. In March 2003 he participated in the world premiere of Manfred Trojahn's Tritticino in Cologne.
