This was announced by the festival’s Artistic Director Valery Gergiev during his latest visit to Vladivostok. He stressed that one of the aims of this festival is to bring together participants and fans of classical music from countries throughout the Asian and Pacific Ocean region. “In Vladivostok we will have, first and foremost, Russian, Japanese, South Korean and Chinese performers. Primorsk is a vital region for the entire planet and here we must establish a truly interesting cultural collaboration between Russia, Japan, Korea, China, the USA, Canada and other nations in the Asian and Pacific Ocean region,” Valery Gergiev commented. On 8 and 9 April the Mariinsky Orchestra under the baton of Valery Gergiev gave four performances at the Primorsky Stage of the Mariinsky Theatre, the matinee performances being charitable events. For young audiences and their parents there were performances of Sergei Sergeyevich Prokofiev’s symphonic tale Peter and the Wolf (narrated by Konstantin Khabensky) and his First Symphony. This has been the musicians’ fifth visit to Vladivostok. The Mariinsky Theatre’s Far East Branch – the Primorsky Stage of the Mariinsky Theatre – opened in Vladivostok on 1 January 2016.
