ABOUT THE CONCERT
The programme of Astana Ballet’s tour includes the company’s recent premieres – Cleopatra by Russian choreographer Nikolai Markelov to music by Maurice Ravel and a work by the Royal Ballet of Flanders’ soloist Brazilian Riccardo Amarante – the ballet Gaia to music by his compatriot the composer Hekel Tavares. In Cleopatra the guests from Astana will present the story of the struggle of the Egyptian Queen for power. The absence of men in the company was dictated by the stage director’s choice of the direction of the production – the competition between two sisters for the throne of Egypt. The main theme of Gaia (the Goddess of the Earth in Ancient Greece) emerged as thoughts about the unity of the elements that form life on our planet: earth, water, wind, fire and forests are the protagonists of this production.
