On April 14, the historic Mikhailovsky Theatre, located in the very heart of St Petersburg, presents a festive Opera Stars Gala dedicated to the anniversary of the celebrated baritone Sergei Leiferkus. The theatre’s stage will bring together outstanding singers, many of whom have performed at the legendary Mariinsky Theatre and trained in the same prestigious conservatories that shaped generations of Russia’s finest vocal artists.
The name of Sergei Leiferkus, renowned to opera lovers worldwide, first resounded loudly at the Mikhailovsky Theatre. This February marks 54 years since Sergei Leiferkus made his debut on our stage — from 1972 to 1978, he was a leading soloist of the theatre’s opera company. During this time, he brought to life many vivid characters on stage: his Don Giovanni, Marcello, Boris Godunov, Gianni Schicchi, and Baron Scarpia became benchmarks for several generations of singers and audiences. We are proud that even today, our public can witness Sergei Leiferkus performing in our productions of “The Lady of the Camellias” and “La Bohème”. On 14 April, a gala concert dedicated to the anniversary of Sergei Leiferkus will be held at the Mikhailovsky Theatre. This grand event will bring together friends and colleagues of the artist, combining the magnificence of theatrical art with the warm atmosphere of a family celebration within the walls of his home theatre. Of course, the singer himself will also take to the stage — inimitable, artistic, instantly captivating audiences with his talent.
