Preformed by Lilia Yakusheva (organ)

Making her debut at the festival, Moscow Conservatory student Lilia Yakusheva will be presenting works from two major organ traditions – the German and the French schools – and from two eras that have proved the most fruitful for organ music – the Baroque and Romanticism. These traditions and ages are interconnected: Germany’s Bruhns and Pachelbel and France’s Du Mage, like many of the other great composers of the Baroque, anticipated the phenomenon that was Bach, who had a profound knowledge of the music of his predecessors and contemporaries. This dialogue with predecessors was something that was to be continued by composers of the 19th century (Schumann, Ritter and Franck) who made use of the timbre richness of the new concert organs, which paved the way for major Romantic forms.
