DancerBorn in 1973 in Tbilisi, Georgia. Started dancing at age 11. From 1987, he continued studying at the Moscow Academy of Dance (class of Professor Pestov).
Invited by Yuri Grigorovich, he joined the Bolshoi Ballet in 1992, where he works with Galina Ulanova, Marina Semyonova, Nikolai Simachov and Nikolai Fadeyechev.
Since becoming a principal dancer, his repertoire at the Bolshoi Theatre has included Mercutio (Romeo and Juliet by Yuri Grigorovich), The Master of Ceremonies (The Golden Age by Yuri Grigorovich), the Nutcracker in The Nutcracker, Prince Siegfried and Rothbart (Swan Lake by Grigorovich), the King (Swan Lake by Vladimir Vasiliev), James (La Sylphide), the title role in Paganini (Lavrovsky), Ferkhad (The Legend of Love by Yuri Grigorovich), Solor and the Golden Idol (La Bayadere by Yuri Grigorovich), Prince Derise and the Blue Bird (The Sleeping Beauty), Albrecht (Giselle), Jean de Brienne (Raymonda by Grigorovich), Taor (The Pharaoh-s Daughter by Petipa, reconstructed by Pierre Lacotte), the poet (Chopiniana/Les Sylphides), The Golden Slave (Sheherezade) by Fokine and Symphony C, Rubies from Jewels, Le Spectre de la rose, Grand pas classique and Narcissus.
He has just given an interpretation of the lead role in The Queen of Spades by Roland Petit, restored by the Bolshoi Theatre-s choreographer (October 2001).
Awarded the silver medal at the Osaka Competition (1995) and the gold medal at the Moscow Competition (1997), Nikolai Tsiskaridze has received many prizes, notably the Best Dancer award in 1997 (Russian National Organisation of Dance), the Golden Mask in 1998 and 2000 and le Benois de la Danse (1999). He has been awarded the title of Honoured Artist of Russia (1997) and People‘s Artist (2001). He also achieved the National Russian Prize for Contribution to the Arts in 2001.
