Jesper TAUBE

Baritone

Jesper Taube is born and raised in Stockholm, Sweden. After completing studies, first at the Kulturama Operastudio 67, and then at the Royal University College of Opera in Stockholm, Jesper has quickly established himself as one of Sweden's leading baritones. His career so far has included opera productions and concerts in both Sweden, Finland, Germany, France, Monaco and the United States of America.

His home stage is the Royal Opera in Stockholm, where he has made great success in the roles of Figaro in The Barber of Seville, Marcello in La Boheme, Count Almaviva in Le Nozze di Figaro, Rodrigo - Marchese di Posa in Verdi's Don Carlo, Escamillo in Carmen, Belcore in L'Elisir d'Amore, Eugen Onegin and much more.

Other roles performed include Valentin in Faust, both sung at Opera de Massy in Paris, France and at the Florida Grand Opera in Miami, USA, Don Alvaro in Il Viaggio a Reims and Aeneas in Dido and Aeneas at the Chicago Opera Theater in Chicago, Silvio in Pagliacci at the Malmo Opera, and Guglielmo in Cosi fan Tutte, both at the Ystad Opera and also at Varmlandsoperan in Karlstad, to name a few.

Mr Taube is also a very sought after concert soloist, and he has performed frequently in concert with most of the major orchestras in Sweden, and also around Europe.

The list of awards is long, and include the prestigious Christina Nilsson Award (1998 &1999), the Bernadotte Artist Prize (1997) and the Walton Gronroos Memorial Award (2000).

Recordings with Mr Taube include Scenes from Stenhammar's opera Tirfing (Sterling, Swedish Grammy Award Winner 1999), Requiem per il uomo innocente, by Gabriella Gullin (Nosag) and Hilding Rosenberg's The Holy Night (Naxos)

In the spring of 2007, Jesper performed in several contemporary pieces. First up, a world premiere of the song cycle "Svalorna i katedralen" by Peter Lyne with the Nordiska Kammarorkestern. And in June Jesper entered the stage in Tallinn, Estonia for the challenging part of "Wallenberg" in the contemporary opera written by Erkki-Svein Tuur.

In the fall of 2007, when he returns to the Royal Opera, Jesper entered his third production of Cosi fan Tutte (as Guglielmo). Two more important parts in new productions stand around the corner. In February 2008 – he has performed Ford in the new production of Falstaff, and later in May – Dandini in La Cenerentola.
