Yekaterina ShimanovichSopranoPrize-winner at the Byelorussian National Alexandrovskaya Competition of Young Singers (1998). Recipient of the "Best performance of an aria by Prokofiev" prize at the International Glinka Vocalists‘ Competition (2004). Born in Minsk. Entered the Byelorussian Academy of Music in 1998, specialising in solo vocals. Subsequently trained at the St Petersburg State Rimsky-Korsakov Conservatoire (class of Grayr Khanedanian), graduating in 2004. Soloist with the Mariinsky Academy of Young Singers since 2003. At the Mariinsky Theatre she has performed the following roles: Fata Morgana (Love for Three Oranges in concert), Miss Jessel (The Turn of the Screw) and Gerhilde (Die Walkьre). Repertoire includes: Katerina (Katerina Ismailova); Yaroslavna (Prince Igor); Tatiana (Eugene Onegin); Iolanta (Iolanta); Sieglinde (Die Walkьre); Lisa (The Queen of Spades); Fata Morgana (The Love for three Oranges); Turandot (Turandot) and Abigaille (Nabucco). Performed at the Aix-en-Provence Music Festival as Fata Morgana in Love for Three Oranges in 2004 and sang the same role in Luxemburg in 2005 and Madrid in 2006. Has toured with the Mariinsky Opera Company to Baden-Baden (2006), performing as Gerhilde in Die Walkьre (Der Ring des Nibelungen tetralogy)and to China performing in concert Lady Macbeth of Mtsensk by Shostakovich (Katerina Izmailova) under maestro Valery Gergiev. |
