Prize-winner at the International Lysenko Vocalists’ Competition (3rd prize, 1981).

Born in 1954 in Belarus. Graduated from the Odessa State Conservatoire in 1982 as a baritone. Soloist from 1982–1987 with the Musorgsky Opera and Ballet Theatre and from 1988–1994 with the St Petersburg Chamber Opera Company. Trained in Italy (Osimo, 1994). As a baritone he performed the roles of Figaro (Il barbiere di Siviglia), Giorgio Germont (La traviata), Robert (Iolanta), Onegin (Eugene Onegin), Yeletsky (The Queen of Spades) and Podkolesin (The Marriage).
Joined the Mariinsky Opera Company in 1994.
