Vladimir Galuzin

Tenor

Vladimir Galuzin is famed as one of the greatest tenors of the age. The unusual nature of his voice, a blend of tenor and baritone, and his unique stage presence have allowed him to create incredibly vivid character renditions. The Italian and Russian opera repertoires are where Vladimir Galuzin´s skill shines to its best advantage. He is known for his interpretations of the roles of Herman (The Queen of Spades) and Alexei (The Gambler) as well as readings of Puccini and Verdi characters. Music critics have referred to Vladimir Galuzin as one of the finest Cavaradossis (Tosca) and Otellos (Otello), in addition to acclaiming his performance as Canio (I pagliacci).
Vladimir Galuzin is a welcome guest at the world´s leading opera houses, such as the Opéra Bastille (Paris), the Lyric Opera of Chicago, the Metropolitan Opera (New York), La Scala, (Milan), the Royal Opera House and Covent Garden (London) as well as his "native" Mariinsky Theatre.

"The singer´s voice, with its timbre, rare in beauty and intensity, has true magnetism that reminds one of Vladimir Atlantov. Galuzin´s other outstanding features are his acting skills, temperament and the particular way he immerses himself in the music, truly enchanting the auditorium."
Roman Berchenko. Nezavisimaya Gazeta

"Kind, good-hearted, with an open and manly face, Galuzin can act on the public with truly murderous effect. It is clear that his acting nature hides dupilcity, and certain latent dark forces go hand in hand with an open spirituality... When Valery Gergiev came to the Mariinsky Theatre, his focus was on several young singers, thanks to whom in the 90s the Mariinsky made such an unprecedented dash for world fame. Under Gergiev, the first tenor roles always went to Vladimir Galuzin — the hysterical Alexei in The Gambler, the zombified Herman in The Queen of Spades, the ambition-filled Grishka the Pretender in Boris Godunov, the gloomy Otello and Sadko, obsessed with dreams of forbidden trade routes."
Pyotr Pospelov. Vedomosti
