Marie-Elisabeth Hecker was born in 1987 in Zwickau, Germany. She took her first cello lessons at the age of 5 at the Zwickau Robert Schumann Conservatory. Since 2001 she was a student of the Dresden Conservatory under Prof. Peter Bruns. In 2005 she continued studies with the same teacher as an undergraduate student in Leipzig. Marie-Elisabeth has taken master-classes with Steven Isserlis, Leonid Gorokhov, Daniel Hope, Paul Watkins, Jonathan Tunnel, Peter Bruns, Maria Kliegel, Anner Bylsma. In 1999-2002 Marie-Elisabeth was a four times winner of the annual national German competition for young musicians «Jugend Musiziert» in different categories (cello solo, string duo and piano trio). She received prizes at different competitions, and in 2005 she was awarded with the Grand Prix and two special prizes at the M. Rostropovich Concours Internationaux de Violoncelle in Paris. Marie-Elisabeth regularly appears with recitals and as a soloist with orchestras in Europe and the USA.
