The biography of the young conductor includes impressive facts: performances with the orchestra of the State Cappella of St Petersburg, Federal State Philharmonic on Caucasus Mineral Waters, the State Opera and Ballet of the Republic of Komi, Yomiuri Nippon Symphony Orchestra Tokyo, Osaka Philharmonic, Symphony Orchestra of St Petersburg, Chamber Orchestra Arpeggione (Moscow), Mikhailovsky Theatre (St Petersburg), State Academic symphony orchestra of Ulyanovsk Philharmonic, Yaroslavl Academic Symphony Orchestra, Saratov State Opera-Ballet Theatre, St Petersburg Music House, Academic Symphony Orchestra of Moscow Philharmonic, Moscow State Academic Symphony Orchestra, State Academic Symphony orchestra named after Evgeny Svetlanov etc. Mikhail Leontyev has conducted opera and ballet performances at the St Petersburg Conservatoire Theatre and the Hermitage Theatre and in 2008, staged a children’s opera The Little Prince by Banevich, performed in the international opera and ballet festival in Savonlinna (Finland), had concert tours with the Mikhailovsky Theatre in South Korea.

 Mikhail Leontyev (Михаил Леонтьев) has received excellent education. He has graduated from the Choral College named after Glinka, the St Petersburg Conservatoire where he studied choral and operatic and symphonic conducting. Also, Arnold Katz’s, Vladimir Fedoseyev’s, Mark Gorenstein’s, Victor Yampolsky’s, Jorma Panula’s, Leonid Grin's, Neeme & Paavo Jarvi's and other master-classes have given rise to a bright career. Mikhail Leontyev has been coached by such outstanding conductors like People’s Artist of Russia, Prof Ravil Martynov, Tatiana Nemkina, People’s Artist of USSR, Prof Vladislav Chernushenko.

Leontyev has won awards at several international competitions: V Conducting Competition named after Sergei Prokofiev (St Petersburg 2008, Title Winner and the Prize of Yamaha), XV Conducting Competition Min-On (Tokyo, 2009, Title of Laureate and the Prize of Asahi), I Open Conducting Competition named after Ilya Musin (Kostroma in 2009, 1st prize and Title of Laureate), I All-Russian Conducting Competition (Moscow 2011, Title of Laureate).

In his theatre music repertoire there are Tchaikovsky’s operas The Queen of Spades, Iolanta and Eugene Onegin, Borodin’s Prince Igor, Verdi’s Masked Ball, Halevi’s Jewess, Janáček’s Katya Kabanova, Rossini’s The Barber of Seville. Mikhail Leontyev has also conducted Tchaikovsky’s ballets Swan Lake, Sleeping Beauty, The Nutcracker, Delibes’ Coppélia (Savonlinna Opera Festival, Finland 2010), Elcheva’s musical Rikki-Tikki-Tavi, Uspensky’s Anna Karenina, Donizetti’s comic opera The Bell, Prokofiev’s children’s opera The Giant, etc. His extensive symphonic repertoire contains an awe-inspiring list.

Conductor worked in various orchestras: Conductor of the Orchestra of the State Cappella of St. Petersburg (2008-2009), Conductor of the Orchestra of the Federal State Philharmonic on Caucasus Mineral Waters (2009-2010), Conductor of Mikhailovsky Theatre (St. Petersburg) (2010-2011). 2011-2016 Artistic Director and Principal Conductor of the Tambov Symphony Orchestra (Russia). Mikhail Leontev also worked at the Moscow Chamber Orchestra of the Pavel Slobodkin Concert Center and Opera and Ballet Theatre of the Republic of Komi.

Since 2016 Conductor of The St. Petersburg MusicHall of the Orchestra «Northern Symphony» (artistic director Fabio Mastrangelo). Guest Conductor of the Stavropol Philharmonic Orchestra.
Choirmaster of the Concert Choir of St. Petersburg State University.

Mikhail Leontev awarded the prize named after S. Rachmaninov as the head of the Tambov Symphony Orchestra. In 2015 he received a scholarship of the Government of the Russian Federation (in the sphere of culture).
