Piercarlo ORIZIO

Born in Brescia, Pier Carlo Orizio graduated in piano under Sergio Marengoni. He then studied composition with Giancarlo Facchinetti, conducting with Donato Renzetti and attended master classes held by E. Tchakarov (Venice 1988) and Leonard Bernstein (Rome 1989).

Pier Carlo Orizio regularly conducts some major European orchestras such as Danish National Symphony, Camerata Salzburg, Prague Symphony Orchestra, Prague Philharmonia, Orchestra della Svizzera Italiana, Slovenska Filharmonija Ljubljana, Zagreb R.T.V. Symphony Orchestra, Cracow Philharmonic Orchestra, Orchestra Haydn di Bolzano e Trento, Orchestra Sinfonica Siciliana, “G. Enescu” Philharmonic Orchestra and Choir, Orchestre de Cannes, I Pomeriggi Musicali di Milano and collaborates with world-renowned soloists such as Paul Badura-Skoda, Melvyn Tan, Boris Berezovsky, François-Joël Thiollier, Uto Ughi, Salvatore Accardo, Sir James Galway, Sergej Krylov, Marco Rizzi, Lilya Zilberstein, Fazil Say, Alexander Toradze, Wen-Sinn Yang, Andrea Lucchesini and the singers Cecilia Gasdia, Eteri Gvazava, Sara Mingardo.

During the 1998/99 symphonic season he appeared at the Teatro Massimo “V. Bellini” in Catania conducting the Virtuosi di Praga and the legendary cellist Mstislav Rostropovich.

In October 2003 he conducted the Arkansas Symphony Orchestra to great public and critic acclaim. With the Orchestra del Festival Pianistico Internazionale di Brescia e Bergamo he performed with huge success at major European festivals such as Falsterbo in Sweden, Santander in Spain, Ludwigsburg in Germany and Saint Riquier in France.

Since 2001 he has regularly conducted Martha Argerich recording for RAI Beethoven’s First Concerto and Schumann’s A minor Concerto. With the famous piano duo Katia and Marielle Labèque he has recorded a programme of French music for RAI as well.

In September 2008 he conducted the China Broadcasting Symphony Orchestra in two concerts in Beijing and a tour with the same orchestra in the major cities of China took place in November.

His performances of Verdi’s Requiem with the Orchestra e Coro del Teatro Verdi di Trieste have been received enthusiastically by audiences and press alike.

Recent highlights include successful concerts with Russian National Orchestra, Norrköping Symphony, St. Petersburg Philharmonic Orchestra and St. Petersburg Symphony Orchestra (at the Grand Hall of Saint Petersburg Philharmonic), in Novosibirsk and with the Tchaikovsky Symphony Orchestra at the International House of Music in Moscow.

Last seasons’ engagements include performances with the Czech National Symphony Orchestra, the Stuttgarter Philharmoniker, Janáček Philharmonic Orchestra and OFUNAM,  Pier Carlo Orizio holds the position of Artistic Director of the Festival Pianistico Internazionale di Brescia e Bergamo and of the Beijing Piano Festival.
