Maxim Shostakovich

Conductor

Born in Leningrad, 1938. Graduated from Central Ten-year Musical School under E.Hoven and piano department of Moscow Conservatoire under Prof. J.V.Flier. At the same time began his conductor’s studying - at first, in Leningrad under N.S.Rabinovich, and after that in Moscow - under A.V.Gauk and G.N.Rozhdestvensky. Took part in conductor’s seminar of Igor Markevich (1964). Had been worked as an assistant of Veronika Dudarova in Moscow symphony orchestra (since 1964) and as an assistant of Evgeny Svetlanov in State USSR symphony orchestra (since 1965). Headed the Symphony orchestra of the Central Television and All-Union Radio, having a lot of concerts and records with it. Conducted the first performance of D.D.Schostakovich’s 15th Symphony (1972).
Has performed on tour in different countries.Lived in USA since 1981.
His first appearing in Russia after a long interval had place in 1994, when he conducted D.D.Schostakovich’s 8th Symphony with the SPb Philharmonic Orchestra at the concert, dedicated to E.A.Mravinsky memory. Since then he lives in St.Petersburg.In present time the base of conductor’s repertoire is formed by the his great father’s symphony heritage.
