Alexei Miroshnichenko

Choreographer

Born in 1974. Graduated from the Vaganova Academy of Russian Ballet in 1992 (class of Valentin Onoshko) and was engaged by the Mariinsky Theatre.

From 1996 to 2002 was a choreography student at the Vaganova Academy of Russian Ballet (class of Professors Igor Belsky and Georgy Alexidze) where he staged the one-act ballet Tchaikovsky"s Children"s Album (1997) for students of the Academy as well as numerous dances and miniatures.

Made his debut as a choreographer at the Mariinsky Theatre in 1997 with Les noces to music by Stravinsky.

At the Mariinsky Theatre he has staged dances in the operas Parsifal (Wagner), Betrothal in a Monastery (Prokofiev) and La sonnambula (Bellini); he has been assistant director and choreographer of the operas Lohengrin (Wagner) and La serva padrona (Pergolesi).

In 1998 – 1999 he taught historical social dance at the Mariinsky Academy of Young Singers.

For Mariinsky Theatre soloists he has staged miniatures including The Hermits (Carl Orff), which was awarded the special Fyodor Lopukhov Prize at the IV International Vaganova-Prix Ballet Competition, Prelude (Johann Sebastian Bach), Adagio (Johann Sebastian Bach), Pavan (Gabriel Faure), Helios-Fighter (Einsturzende Neubauter, Claude Debussy), Nanou (Aphextwin) and Get What You Gave (Plaid).

In 2002 at the Novosibirsk Opera and Ballet Theatre he staged a programme of one-act ballets including Roads of Love (Kurt Weil, Joseph Kosma, Francis Poulenc) and Symphony for Dot-Matrix Printers (The User, Mozart).

In 2004 as part of the Modern Choreography Workshop project at the Bolshoi Theatre he staged the one-act ballet Hungarian Dances (Brahms).

In 2005 he was invited by the New York Choreographic Institute to attend their spring and autumn terms, staging the ballets Songs of Stravinsky for students of the School of American Ballet and Du cote de chez Swan (Leonid Desyatnikov) for soloists and the corps de ballet of the New York City Ballet.

Created the dances for the musical film Music That Left Russia.

Since 2003 he has taught at the choreography department of the Vaganova Academy of Russian Ballet.

Since 2004 he has been a coach of Forsythe"s ballets at the Mariinsky Theatre.
