Pavel Petrenko was born in St Petersburg and studied music at the St Petersburg
State Rimsky-Korsakov Conservatoire (class of Professor Ye.P. Kudryavtseva).
From 2004-2006 he worked with the St Petersburg Chamber Opera Company, where he
regularly conducted the operas Rita, Il campanello, Viva la mamma, The
Falcon and Il matrimonio segreto. In 2005 he participated in the
Min-On international competition of symphony conductors in Tokyo. Since
2007 he has been a conductor of the Zazerkalye children's musical
theatre, where he has conducted performances of the operas Die
Zauberflцte and La Cenerentola and the operetta Die
Fledermaus as well as other works. As a conductor, he collaborates with the
St Petersburg State Symphony Orchestra and the State Philharmonic Orchestra for
Children and Young People. In 2009 he conducted a performance of the opera
Kashchei the Immortal at Vyborg Castle with soloists and the Chorus of
the Mariinsky Theatre and the Orchestra of the St Petersburg Chamber Opera
Company. He has also conducted the ballet Swan Lake several times with
