Stanislav Gaudassinsky

Stanislav Gaudassinsky graduated from Leningrad Rimsky-Korsakov State Conservatory as singer (under professor V.Lukanin‘s leadership) in 1965 and as music director (under professor E.Sokovnin‘s and professor R.Tikhomirov‘s leadership) in 1973.

From 1967 till 1971 S.Gaudassinsky was soloist of Leningrad Kirov State Academic Opera and Ballet Theatre (at present St. Peterburg Mariinsky Theatre). From 1971 till 1978 he was assistant director of the above-mentioned theatre and renewed the opera "Pskovityanka" by Rimsky-Korsakov as well the opera "Verter" by Massenet.

In 1978 S. Gaudassinsky became Chief director of Odessa Academic Opera and Ballet Theatre and worked there till 1980. Within that period he made the productions of the operas: "LaTraviata" by Verdi, "Aleko" by Rakhmaninov, "Love Letters" by Gubarenko, "Peter I" by Petrov.

In 1980 S. Gaudassinsky was appointed Chief director of Leningrad Maly State Academic Opera and Ballet Theatre (at present St. Petersburg Mussorgsky State Academic Opera and Ballet Theatre). Since that moment the theatre‘s opera activity is distinguished by performing of the Russian classical and the best foreign operas. Also the tradition of the contemporaneous opera repertoire mastering was continued. S.Gaudassinsky‘s aim to cause a singer to be a good actor confered special characteristic to whole company.

In 1990 S. Gaudassinsky was appointed Artistic Director of the St.Petersburg Mussorgsky State Academic Opera and Ballet Theatre and since 1997 he also is at the head of the theatre as General Director.

S.Gaudassinsky made the fallowing productions at the Mussorgsky Theatre: "Maria Stuart" by Slonimsky (awarded the State Prize of Russia), "The Queen of Spades", "Eugene Onegin" by Tchaikovsky, “The Taming of the Shrew” by Shebalin, "Pugachev" by Kobekin, "Dorotea", "The Naked King" by Khrennikov, "Don Quixote" by Massenet, “Boris Godunov”,.”Khovanshchina”:•by Mussorgsky. “Le Fou” by Landowsky, "The Brothers Karamazov" by Kholminov, "The Golden Cockerel”, “The Tale of the Tsar Saltan by Rimsky-Korsakov, "Peter I" by Petrov, "La Traviata" by Verdi, "Die Fledermaus" by Strauss, "Carmen" by Bizet (for the Theatre‘s 80th anniversary).

S.Gaudassinsky realized abroad two opera productions: "Peter I" by A.Petrov in Bulgaria and "Montsegur" by M. Landowsky in France.

S.Gaudassinsky‘s opera productions were showed at the 40th International Edinburg Festival and also were repeatedly performed in Italy, Prance, Japan, USA, Greece, The Netherlands, Portugal, Germany.

Stanislav Gaudassinsky is People‘s Artist of Russia, State Prize winner of Russia, professor, head of the Opera direction faculty of St. Petersburg Rimsky-Korsakov State Conservatory.

He was awarded the Order of Friendship and the Order for Services to the Fatherland, 4th degree.
