Mikhail Richter

Violin soloist

Violinist Mikhail Richter was born in Leningrad in 1969. He started studying playing violin when he was five. In 1976-1987, he studied at the Special Musical High School at the St. Petersburg Conservatory in the violin class of pedagogue Irina Etigon. In 1984, as a trio part he was awarded with the Grand-Prix at the International Concertino Prague Competition.

In 1987–1994, Mikhail Richter was student of the St. Petersburg State Conservatory where his teachers were Mikhail Estrin and Vladimir Ovcharek. In 1990, he won the First Award at the International Competition of Violinists in Murcia (Spain). During the years of his studies, Richter regularly concerted with solo and chamber concerts in St. Petersburg and abroad.

In 1990–1993, Mikhail Richter was the soloist of the Saint-Petersburg Camerata Ensemble (artistic director Saulyus Sondetskis). In 1992, Richter became Laureate of the Iegudi Menukhin Fund in Rheims (France).

In 1994–1996, Richter was on internship at the Higher School of Music and Drama in London, at the class of Professor Efr Nieman. Presently, Mikhail Richter is one of the soloists of the Big Symphony Orchestra of the Mariinsky Theater, Artistic Director Valery Gergiev.
