Sun Young Seo

Soprano

Sun Young Seo is a graduate of the Korea National University of Arts in Seoul where she received her Bachelor’s degree in 2006 and Master of Music degree in 2009. Since 2009 she has been a student of Professor Michaela Kraemer at the Robert Schumann Musikhochschule in Dьsseldorf. Sun Young Seo also took master-classes with Grace Bumbry in Salzburg in 2009 and participated in a workshop with Kwangchul Youn in Seoul in 2007.

The singer’s operatic repertoire includes the roles of Fiordiligi (Così fan tutte), Donna Anna (Don Giovanni), Adina (L’elisir d’amore), Agathe (Der Freischütz), Marguerite (Faust), Micaëla (Carmen), Mimì (La Bohème), Liùú (Turandot), Nedda (I pagliacci) and Wally (La Wally).

Sun Young Seo has been a prize-winner an International Vocalists’ Competitions in Cagli (Italy, 2006) and in Monte Carlo (2008). She took first prize at the Schmolz and Bickenbach Competition, held at the Robert Schumann Hochschule in 2009, and second prize at the International ARD Music Competition in Munich. In 2009–2010 Sun Young Seo received a scholarship from DAAD (the Deutscher Akademischer Austausch Dienst). With support from Westdeutscher Rundfunk (WDR) she recorded a CD of romances and arias. Sun Young Seo’s most recent achievements include the first prize at the Francisco Viсas International Vocalists’ Competition in Barcelona (Spain, 2010) and the Grand Prix at the Maria Callas Grand Prix Competition in Athens (Greece, 2011).
