Sergei Stadler (Violin)

Violin soloist
Violinist and conductor. People’s Artist of Russia. The only world violinist honored to perform on Niccolo Paganini’s instrument.

Born in Leningrad (1962), now St. Petersburg. Graduated from, and taught at the conservatory there (1984–89); then studied at the Moscow conservatory (1986), also with Leonid Kogan, David Oistrakh, Viktor Tretyakov and others. Winner of numerous prizes and awards at the “Concertino Prague” (1976), the Margaret Long and Jacques Thibaud (1979), the Sibelius (1980) and the Tchaikovsky (1982) international competitions. Taught master classes in Europe and Singapore. Concert tours in over 50 countries. Recorded about 30 CDs.

Performs with Peter Donohoe, Barry Douglas, Eugene Kissin, Mikhail Pletnyov, Julia Stadler and other pianists. Recites with Valeri Ghergiyev, Kurt Mazur, Gennadi Rozhdestvensky, Wolfgang Sawallisch, Yuri Temirkanov and other prominent conductors. Works with the Bolshoi and Mariinsky Opera Theaters, the Czech, London and St. Petersburg Philharmonic Orchestras, as well as with Russia’s State Symphony, the Russian National, the “Gewandhaus-Leipzig” and other world famous orchestras.

Worked as the Rimsky-Korsakov St. Petersburg Opera and Ballet Theater’s Chief Conductor. Produced the “Tosca”, “Boris Godunov”, “Eugene Onegin” and “The Queen of Spades” operas, as well as Berlioz’s “Les Troyennes” and Grotry’s “Peter the Great” (both Russia’s premieres). Many settings are marked with various awards.

Artistic Director and Organizer of the “Paganini’s Violin in Hermitage” festival, as well as of the annual International Music Festival in Perm (Russia). Founder of the Hermitage Academy of Music.
